On February 12, kids and families joined our favorite mom & daughter yoga teachers Crystal and Maddie for a family yoga storytime! Yoga is a great way of engaging children in physical movement while improving flexibility and body awareness. In addition, incorporating yoga into our storytimes allows kinesthetic learners to connect with reading in an active way.
At our storytime, Crystal read Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse by Laura Numeroff while Maddie led participants doing related yoga poses for each page. Numeroff is the author of the family favorite book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. In Happy Valentine’s Day Mouse, Mouse makes valentines to share what he loves about each of his friends.
Children and parents who attended learned yoga poses like Downward Dog and Tree Pose. Because this week is Valentine’s Day, we enjoyed making a Valentine craft after the storytime.
Crystal and Maddie will be at the following upcoming family storytimes:
March 19: St. Patrick’s Day Family Yoga Storytime
April 9: Family Yoga Storytime & Snack
